Casa Lola
Local Information
There are some great restaurants and markets to be found in the region.
On Wednesday mornings you can find local fresh fruit, veg and bric-a-brac in Amandola, and on Thursday morning a larger version of this in Sarnarno.
There are plenty of restaurants serving delicious local food nearby. The closest are in Monte San Martino where there are 2 - Le Querche, and Da Priori, both delicious and staple of any Casa Lola holiday. Le Querche is plentiful and cheap, starters are a meal in itself - grilled meat delicious but also look out for home-made pasta dishes plus his soups. The locals love this place because they appreciate a bargain. Closed Tuesdays (but check this first). Da Priori is a real treat; (lighting a bit neon) delicious food cooked by Angelica – nettle pasta, truffle risotto, good wine list - medium priced.
For the biggest pizza you have ever seen go to (the other) Le Querche in the outskirts of Sarnarno. Unbelievably cheap. Beer monsters will appreciate discount on large jugs of the stuff.
There are details of many sites, day trips and restaurants in the house. If you tire of the mountain views and hill top villages, you can head off to the Italian Riviera for the day. It takes about 50 mins' to get there and once you have chosen your resort, be it San Benedetto or Porto Recanati, you can wallow in the warm sea, and eat copious amounts of sea food as you rest beneath the colourful umbrellas running along the beaches.
We are lucky to have Liz and Barry an English couple living all year round near by, who look after and run the house for us. They usually meet guests when they arrive, and show them around the house. They are a phone call away if you need help with anything. We will give you their details once booking is underway.
For those of you that love walking, Casa Lola is on the edge of the Sibillini National Park and a short drive away there are some of the most beautiful treks in Italy. Possibly the most famous is the journey up to Lago di Pilato (it is said that Pontius Pilate’s body fell into the lake there), and also Gola del Infernaccio (Hell's Gorge) where you can visit the hermit monk perched at the top of the crag with his hand-built church. These mountains are every bit as dramatic as the landscape of the Dolomites with refuges to be found in isolated spots. The local walking near to house is outstanding as well; it's possible to meander to Amandola along rural path-ways. It's a 1/2 hour steep walk down the lake where you can get a cold beer from the friendly Osteria to cool you down! See http://www.le-marche.com for more information about the region.
